The water in all Tees Valley Leisure Swimming Pools is filtered 24 hours a day to ensure that it is clean for our customers to use safely. Pool pumps push water through the filters at a rate high enough to ensure that all of the water in the pool tank passes through the filters at least once every 4 hours. To ensure the system is keeping the pool water chemicals at the correct and most efficient level, qualified staff manually test the water at least four times a day, every day.

Weekly pool backwashes take place where we reverse the flow of the pumps and clean the filters to ensure they are working at their best. Dirty water is flushed out to the drain and fresh water is then added to the pool to maintain the water level. Dilution limits the build-up of pollutants in the water and is an important factor in maintaining crystal clear water.

The swimming pool water never rests and this rigorous cleaning and disinfection routine ensures that you will have top quality water every time you come for a swim. Unfortunately it is usually bathers themselves who pollute the water continuously and these pollutants need to be minimised and dealt with by the water treatment process. This is why we politely request that you shower before every swim.

The Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group state that pool water for a conventional main pool should be no less than 28 degrees centigrade and a teaching pool no less than 30 degrees centigrade.

We maintain our pool at approximately 29 degrees centigrade but this is reduced very slightly during backwash times when cold fresh water is added. We do, however, perform backwashes at the quietest times of the week when bathers will be least inconvenienced.

As a pool with many different uses we need to strike a balance with the temperature for all of our users.
