Loftus Dolphins A.S.C.
History
Loftus Dolphins Swimming Club was set up in 1988 by the present Head Coach, Barbara Wilkinson, husband John, former Redcar Swimmer, Barry Knaggs and First Chairman, David Palmer. From those humble beginnings, with one hour training session each week and 12 members, the club has grown to cater for swimmers of all ages and abilities from novice level to national performances from the local area and much further afield.
Membership and Training
The club has about 60 members training in 4 squads over 5 sessions a week. Loftus Dolphins is a Swim 21 Accredited Club and is in the enviable position of having 2 ASA level 3 qualified coaches as well as a number of other Level 1 and 2 assistant coaches and several younger ex-swimmers training as instructors. This all ensures that the swimmers can receive a high level of individual attention.
The swimmers are trained through technique work in all strokes and eventually progress to higher level skills and work on speed and strength. All members are given the opportunity to test their performance in swimming competitions at a level to suit their ability from novice galas through to County and Regional levels and up to National Galas although some swimmers prefer to swim for enjoyment, fitness or to improve their performance in other sports.
There is also a small but enthusiastic group of Masters (Adult) swimmers who train twice weekly for both fitness and competitions.
